Six on Saturday pictures should be a relief from the serious news around the globe. More so are the actual flowers blooming in our yards, neighborhoods, and regions.

My top picture is a gumpo azalea that’s just beginning to bloom. I think the name is “Frosted Orange.” It reminds me of the Dreamsicle frozen treats on a stick that had orange sherbet around a center of vanilla ice cream. Do they still make those? I have ten of these small azaleas around the back yard, and they’re among my favorite bloomers.

The collage you see above is a banana shrub. It’s a tree-like plant that shades my little garden room. The blossoms perfume the air with a sweet banana scent – not overpowering, but noticeable.

You see my little shady sitting space at the back of the picture. This is the best time of year to enjoy this outdoor “room.” The weather is perfect, and the mosquitoes haven’t arrived yet. I’m due for new cushions, but I’m not getting out to the stores these days, just like the rest of you.

This rose bush is really making a display this week. It has mostly pink blossoms, with one limb making red sports.

When I’m out front, I see my neighbor’s beautiful bridal wreath spirea hedge. Every year, my husband says, “why don’t we have some of those?” I’m without excuse.

Finally, this patch of siberian iris is blooming. The picture looks a little pinker than they really are. They are behind some of the small Frosted Orange gumpo azaleas, and their colors blend nicely in that area of the garden.
