SIX ON SATURDAY: What was I Thinking?!

I let a full month of Spring slip by without posting a Six on Saturday. Yes, it was a busy month, but March had five Saturdays. My excuse was that my only free Saturday was just two weeks after my February post, and I thought I’d have more to share as the month went on. And I did have some beautiful flowers to post, but I didn’t realize how occupied I would be for the rest of March.

Today, I’ll show you some photos from last month and will use another post to catch up in April. (But you know what they say about good intentions.) The top picture was Shep pointing out how beautiful the Encore azaleas were this year.

Our flowering crabapple was glorious in early March. At night, the white flowers shimmered in the light.

We had several grey days, but against the blue sky, the blossoms were spectacular.

I’ll give you the broad views of the backyard since many of the large indica azaleas were blooming at about the same time. The southeast corner has changed since I lost a couple of big azaleas there, and we have a few years to wait for the replacements to become showy.

The southwest corner has three small red azaleas on the side and one giant Pride of Mobile pink at the back.

This is one of my favorite spots to sit and view the backyard. Although it needs some tidying up and new summer annuals for the pots, Spring shrubs just do their thing without much effort on my part.

The photo of my sitting corner shows the overgrown red-tipped photina in full bloom at the top left corner. Just above, I’ve shown a fuller shot of that same shrub.

Here’s another one that wraps around the water oak.

My husband thinks we should’ve pruned these shrubs to about six feet tall. What?! And miss this gorgeous display of clusters?

March was highlighted by reflection, renewal, death, and new birth. This describes my schedule and activities during the month, as well as Lent, Holy Week, and Resurrection Sunday.

April continues the season of Eastertide on the church calendar, and it is still evidenced in nature’s beautiful Spring displays. There’s more to share, but I’ll get to that next time,
